How Do Xeomin Injections Help Skin Look Younger and Smoother?

Life can bring many surprises, although not all of them are welcome. Fine lines and wrinkles may be natural, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept them. Injectable neuromodulators like Xeomin offer a fast and effective solution for resisting the signs of time while still maintaining your natural beauty.

Like other cosmetic neuromodulators, Xeomin is injected into facial muscles and should only be given by trained medical professionals. We offer Xeomin injections to our Bayside Medspa clients, including many who have had adverse reactions to Botox or Dysport in the past.

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin is an injectable neurotoxin used to temporarily relax the muscles where it is injected. As the facial muscles relax, the skin on top appears smoother and more youthful. The FDA has approved Xeomin for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines (also known as frown lines). It is frequently used off-label for additional cosmetic purposes.

This neuromodulator is also known as botulinum toxin type A. Other approved medical uses of Xeomin include treating eye spasms, cervical dystonia, and upper limb spasticity.

Xeomin is considered to be the purest injectable neurotoxin because it does not contain accessory proteins, although Dysport and Botox do. The molecular makeup of Xeomin reduces the risk of skin irritation and adverse reactions. Some studies have found it may also provide faster results than other neuromodulators.

While the purity of Xeomin is an important difference, it shares many of the same characteristics as Botox. Like Botox, Xeomin targets nerve signals in the treatment areas to prevent muscles from contracting and is a proven, effective wrinkle treatment.

What Are Xeomin Injections Like?

Our first priority is always patient safety. To protect the health of our patients, we begin every procedure with a comprehensive consultation. We can discuss your goals and answer any questions at this time. We will also review your medical history and may ask for more information, such as a list of allergies, medications, or other conditions.

If Xeomin injections are the best procedure to help you meet your cosmetic goals, we can prepare for a treatment session.

We ask that you come in for your appointment without makeup or other products on your skin. While you relax before your treatment, we will use a special cleanser on your face and prepare the Xeomin injections.

You should not expect to feel much discomfort when receiving neuromodulator injections. No anesthesia is needed or used; however, we will be happy to apply a mild topical anesthetic if you prefer. You may feel a small pinch at the injection sites.

Xeomin treatment won’t take much time out of your day. Each session lasts between 10 and 30 minutes. Because no anesthesia is needed, you can drive yourself home and return to normal activities when you leave the clinic.

Thanks to this convenience and the short amount of time needed for injections, many patients choose to schedule appointments during their lunch breaks.

What Should You Expect After Getting Xeomin Injections?

No downtime is required after Xeomin injections. We will provide full aftercare instructions, which will vary depending on each patient’s needs, skin type, treatment areas, and lifestyle.

Xeomin is a fast-acting neuromodulator. You may see results in as little as 72 hours. The first change you will notice is smoother skin at the injection sites. The more deeply your muscles relax, the better your results will be.

Most patients report seeing the best results around 30 days after their appointments. Fine lines fade, and even deeper wrinkles can be significantly diminished after only one treatment. We encourage patients to keep this timeline in mind if they are receiving injections for a special occasion, such as a wedding or other big event.

How Long Does Xeomin Last?

The effects of Xeomin injections last at least three months for most patients. Many continue to enjoy an improvement in facial smoothness for up to six months. However, several factors determine how long injection results last:

  • Age
  • Depth of facial lines
  • Skin type
  • Lifestyle choices
  • Proper aftercare

Xeomin injectables take time to settle into the targeted muscles. Vigorous exercise, sweating, or using equipment that puts pressure on the face can affect how the neuromodulator spreads. Patients who are willing to follow all aftercare instructions increase their chances of meeting their cosmetic goals.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Xeomin Injections?

Almost everyone with moderate facial wrinkles is a good match for Xeomin. People who have experienced adverse reactions or skin sensitivities to other injectables in the past may be able to receive Xeomin due to the purity of its formula.

You may be a good candidate for this procedure if you:

  • Are tired of looking older than you feel
  • Are in good physical health
  • Have moderate to severe forehead wrinkles or other facial wrinkles
  • Understand what Xeomin can and cannot do
  • Have realistic expectations
  • Do not have a history of neuromuscular diseases such as multiple sclerosis

If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking certain medications, you may not qualify for Xeomin treatments at this time. However, each person’s situation is different. We will discuss any concerns about your health status during your initial consultation.
